What is literacy?
According to the UNESCO (2024), literacy trascends the skills of reading, writing and counting. It is the way in which a human being realtes to the world by identifying understanding, interpreting and communicating through a text mediated, information rich and fast changing world.
Literacy skills are developed continiously through a person's life. These acquired skills enhance the ability of the individual when performing different activities in their daily life.
¿Qué es la literacia?
Según la UNESCO (2024), la literacia trasciende las destrezas de leer, escribir y contar. Es la forma en que un ser humano se relaciona con el mundo identificando, comprendiendo, interpretando y comunicándose a través de una sociedad mediada por textos, rico en información y en rápida evolución.
Las destrezas de literacia se desarrollan continuamente a lo largo de la vida de una persona. Estas habilidades adquiridas mejoran la capacidad del individuo a la hora de realizar diferentes actividades en su vida cotidiana.
Why is literacy important?
The importance of literacy lies in the way it empowers and liberates a person. Educating people to be able to read and write allows them to discover and learn from an unending world of knowledge.
In other words, literacy is the foundation for doing well at school, socialising with others, problem-solving, making decisions, developing independence, managing money and working.
¿Cuál es la importancia de la literacia?
La importancia de la literacia reside en la forma en que capacita y libera a una persona. Educar a las personas para que sepan leer y escribir les permite descubrir y aprender de un mundo interminable de conocimientos.
En otras palabras, la alfabetización es la base para ser exitoso en la escuela, socializar con los demás, resolver problemas, tomar decisiones, desarrollar la independencia, gestionar el dinero y trabajar.
